Summary of Benefits

(All employees working 30+ hours are considered benefit-eligible)

Health Insurance

  • Coverage available through BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina.
  • Employees are offered a Health Reimbursment Plan.
  • Employer pays portion of premium for all benefit-eligible employees
  • Coverage commences the 1 st day of the month following the employee’s 1 st day of employment.

Dental Insurance

  • Coverage available through Met Life.
  • Employer-paid. Dependent coverage available at employee’s expense.
  • Coverage commences the 1 st day of the month following the employee’s 1 st day of employment.

Short-term Disability Insurance

  • Short-term disability program administered by UNUMProvident.
  • Available to all benefit-eligible regular status (not probationary) employees.
  • Available after 30 days of total disability for up to 6 months.
  • Pays 60% of employee’s salary up to $1,500 per week.

Long-term Disability Insurance

  • Long-term disability program is administered by UNUMProvident.
  • Available after 6 months of disability.
  • Pays 60% of employee’s salary up to $5,000 per month.
  • Enrollment required for participation in long-term disability program. Employer-paid.

Life/AD&D Insurance

  • Available through UNUMProvident.
  • Life coverage at two times employee’s annual salary up to a maximum of $200,000.
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage also equal to two times annual salary
  • Employees may elect life insurance for their eligible dependents at no cost to the employee.
  • Enrollment required for participation. Employer-paid.

Reimbursement Accounts

  • Employees may set up Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for Unreimbursed Medical and/or Dependent Care.
  • Contributions made through payroll deduction.
  • Coverage commences the 1 st day of the month following the employee’s 1 st day of employment.
  • Enrollment required for participation. Employee-paid.

Retirement

  • OPC Area Program participates in the Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System.
  • Employees contribute 6% of annual salary. The agency contribution is determined annually.
  • Full retirement benefits after 30 years of retirement service, at age 60 with 25 years of service, or at age 65 with five years of credit.
  • Reduced retirement benefits at age 50 with at least 20 years of retirement service, or at age 60 with at least 5 years of such service.
  • Coverage commences from the 1 st day of employment. Enrollment required for participation.

Supplemental Retirement

  • Employees may participate in a 457 Deferred Compensation Program offered through Nationwide Retirement Solutions.
  • Voluntary contributions made through payroll deduction.
  • Employee-paid (agency does not match contributions)

NC 401k

  • OPC offers employees the opportunity to participate in the NC 401K program
  • Voluntary contributions made through payroll deduction on pre-tax basis or Roth on post-tax basis.
  • Employee-paid (agency does not match contributions)

Leave Benefits

Annual Leave

  • 8 hours (1day) to 20.33 hours (2.7 days) earned per month based on length of service.
  • Annual leave accrues the 1 st day of each month.
  • May be used for vacation, illness, medical appointments, religious observances or in lieu of sick leave.
  • Annual leave in excess of 240 accrued hours will be rolled into sick leave January 1.

Sick Leave

  • 8 hours (1 day) earned per month.
  • Sick leave accrues the 1 st day of each month.
  • May be used for illness, medical appointments, illness of a family member or in case of the death of an immediate family member or close friend.
  • Unlimited accumulation.

Education Assistance

OPC provides assistance with obtaining licensure by offering free LCSW supervision and free in-house CEUs

Employee Assistance Program

  • Provides confidential, professional services to employees, their immediate family members and members of their households through an outside agency.

Workers’ Compensation

  • Compensation for work-related illnesses, injuries or deaths.

State Employees Credit Union

  • Membership open to employees and their family members
